NEW DELHI: In the Indian Test team, every cricketer is deeply attached to music. When it comes to live Bollywood numbers from one of the best artists in the industry Sonu Nigam, the players can't be left behind in their hotel rooms. Sonu arrived on the stage none of these cricketers were visible barring skipper MS Dhoni, who left after a few moments.
But the moment the concert began and the audience started tapping to the tune, the rest of the cricket team contingent walked in - Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Ashok Dinda, R Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane and Pragyan Ojha.
Not to leave out Yuvraj Singh, who was playing the co-host as the Sahara Pune Warrior owner Subrata Roy's was throwing a big bash for his granddaughter's "annaprashan ceremony".
You may have seen cricketer posing for photographs and giving visuals to telephone cameras of the fans, but in this gathering, the cricketers were capturing Sonu Nigam's live performance on their phones.
Some of them like Raina and Kohli got so involved and they sang with Sonu. With Suresh Raina's penchant for music - he shared the famour Aradhana song "Mere Sapno Ki Rani Kab Aayegi Tu". However, Virat Kohli emerged the best of the lot when he sang "Bachna Ae Haseeno Lo Me aa gaya."
Even Sonu Nigam was impressed. By the time it was late evening, the cricketers were still hanging in there and kept humming songs.
Soon, Sonu Nigam dedicated the songs from 1997 hit movie Border - Sandesha Aate hai, Ke Ghar Ab Aaoge - resembling how the cricketers miss home when they are traveling for cricket assignments.
Before they parted for the night, Yuvraj went up to the stage and hugged Sonu Nigam and consoled his mother's death who passed away recently. Indeed a night to remember!
