Sonu Nigam Commemorates 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks

Mumbai: Thousands of locals, including hundreds of school and college students, took part in a peace marathon in Mumbai on Sunday to commemorate the lives lost during the 26/11 2008 attacks in the city.

The marathon was organised by the Anti Terrorist Front to raise awareness on how to combat militancy and attracted several celebrities including Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam, actor Suneil Shetty and Indian wrestler `The Great Khali`.

"We need to be their eyes and ears and it is not easy to break this nation. That is why even after so many incidents people get up the next morning and have come here together to fight for a cause. This is a big thing," said Shetty.

The November 2008 rampage, which began on November 26 and lasted until November 29, killed 166 people and wounded at least 308.

Khali said: "I just want to say that the incident that took place in Mumbai should never occur again."

The attacks were more than 10 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks across Mumbai, by Islamist attackers who came from Pakistan.

Eight of the attacks occurred in South Mumbai: at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Oberoi Trident, the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower, Leopold Cafe, Cama Hospital (a women and children`s hospital), the Nariman House Jewish community centre, the Metro Cinema, and a lane behind the Times of India building and St. Xavier`s College.

There was also an explosion at Mazagaon, in Mumbai`s port area, and in a taxi at Vile Parle.

Sonu Nigam - Rebels Like Me Are Not Respected Or Accepted!

accepted'
He's earned his share of (in)famous publicity, courtesy his rash and abrasive attitude. Sonu Nigam, thankfully accepts all that flak coming his way; his irascible retort to sporting long unruly hair (and sometimes, two ponytails!) his dressing style and more; his rants on Twitter and assorted details provided ample grist for gossip.

"Rebels like me are not generally respected or accepted," carps Nigam in a media quote. "People didn't value R. D. Burman or Kishore Kumar when they were alive. People also made fun of Michael Jackson when he was alive. They were all rebels."

The rebel side of him, however, seems to have been sorted out by spouse Madhurima. "My wife understood me, but a bit late," admits Nigam in a magazine comment. "We had problems, we still have problems, because we are both assertive and independent people. Every marriage goes through its ups and downs, but marriage as an institution has to be reworked."

Sonu Nigam Rocks Dubai !!

Dubai: With songs such as Kal Ho Na Ho (Kal Ho Na Ho), In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein (Jodha Akbar), All Izz Well (3 Idiots), Tanhai (Dil Chahta Hai) and Sanchi Sanchi (Dabangg) in his list, Sonu Niigaam entertained Dubai on Monday evening at a houseful Madinat Jumeirah Arena.
The show, organised by Shashi and Naresh Oberoi of Oberoi Middle East Events, also marked the tenth successful show with the singer, who thanked them for the immense part they've played in his success in the UAE.
Unlike most Bollywood events, the show, surprisingly, started on time. Ten minutes after the stipulated start time, an audio-visual presentation with clips from Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai re-introduced the audience to the achievements of the evening's performer. And soon after the stage was taken by Gunjan, a little known support singer of Niigaam's. Mansi, the compere, couldn't decide between her beauty or singing talents.
Beauty aside, as a singer she is seriously underrated, as she smoothly glided from a soulful romantic oldie into Sheila Ki Jawaani (Tees Maar Khan) and the English version of the A.R. Rahman blockbuster Jai Ho.

She has cut a couple of albums with Bally Sagoo and Niigaam himself. I'm sure the audience would have loved to hear more from apart the six songs and the one duet she sang with Niigaam. "She's an extremely good singer. Why doesn't he sing more duets with her?" queried my neighbour.
But the evening, after all, belonged to Niigaam. Known to sing live with no lip syncing, he rendered slow numbers Palkon Ke Leke Saaye (Kal Ho Na Ho), Shukraan Allah (Kurbaan) and Rabb Raakha (Love, Breakups, Zindagi) before launching into racy ones such as Just Chill (Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya) and Bijuriya.

By half time he had the audience singing and dancing to his tunes. Even the little ones were not immune to his charm as he sang All Izz Well - the "children's song", as he says - with his son Nevaan and others on stage.
"I pre-empted my audience's mood this evening and came with these numbers, and I'm glad I did it right," said Niigaam. He also commended the crowd on its pitch and tune as audience members completed his stanza. "I've never had such a talented audience who carries the ‘sur' [musical note] with me".
Even by 1am, after three hours of singing (with only a 15-minute break) just like the audience, the singer seemed in no mood to leave the venue. The evening ended with the anthem Kal Ho Na Ho, which brought tears to his eyes.

Midway through the song, he said, "In December 2010, my mother was diagnosed with a serious illness and I was shattered. Though I'd sung this song innumerable time I never really realized the true meaning of these lyrics until then. You never expect something so grave to happen to you".
The second half was dedicated to singing legends such as Mohammad Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Hemant Kumar and contemporaries Udit Narayan and Kumar Sanu. Audience requests were not missed and he regaled them with Dil Deewana (Pardes), Do Pal (Veer Zara) and countless songs.
As one fan put it upon leaving the venue, "he knows he's a rockstar and knows to sing all types of songs. He's the next legend after the ones he sang of".

Agam Kumar Nigam On Sonu Nigam's Achievements

Agam Kumar Nigam, Sonu Nigam's father who is also a singer, on his son's remarkable achievements
For all the success Sonu Nigam has garnered, his father Agam Kumar Nigam gives himself only 10 percent credit but the fact remains that Sonu was introduced to the world of music by his father and mother, both of whom are talented singers in their own right. It was during a stage concert of Agam in Jeend, that three-and-a-half-year-old Sonu insisted on singing a portion of “Kya hua tera vaada”. “There were 25,000 people and I was surprised at his offer. That was the first time he held a mike in his hand.” From then on Sonu started accompanying his father to several stage shows. He was musical right from the beginning. Even as a child, he used to drum various things like Farex box.
To channel his talent in the right direction, Agam took him to Mumbai to meet music directors and collect feedback on his voice. “After we got a positive response, Sonu and I shifted to Mumbai. It was only after his song “Acha sila diya” did well, the entire family shifted there. I feel that I have realised my dreams and fulfilled my desires through Sonu. Ninety per cent of the hard work has been done by Sonu and 10 per cent is mine. Even though he didn't train in music for a long time, he learnt by listening. He hears a lot of music.” There is variety too.”
To reach where he Sonu has, the doting father feels, his son has sacrificed a lot. “He missed on his growing up years…he didn't get to play…to roam around like normal children…”Agam credits the depth and emotion-laced voice for Sonu's roaring success. “What has seen him through is his humility and his rootedness. He still remains a typical lower middle class Kayastha boy,” says Agam, who at times accompanies Sonu to his world tours and concerts. Does he still act like his mentor, guide? “No, he has now seen the world. But if he has any issues, I am always there.”
