Colors To Air Global Indian Music Awards - 5 Dec 2010


MUMBAI: Colors has acquired exclusive rights to telecast the inaugural edition of Chevrolet Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA) on 5 December.

GIMA, the first multi-genre music awards, will be aired at 8 pm. The awards will honour and applaud talent across film and non-film music with the vision of giving different music genius the same platform, importance and recognition. Asha Bhosle is the goodwill ambassador for the GIMA.

Colors programming head Ashvini Yardi says, "It gives us great pleasure to be associated with the first-ever Global Indian Music Awards to celebrate the timeless legacy of indigenous musical talent and lend global recognition to some of the best Indian music and musicians across genres. At Colors, we believe in promoting unique and deserving talent, be it through reality shows or events. Taking this belief forward, Colors is proud to be associated with GIMA"

The show will see singer and music director Shankar Mahadevan pay a tribute to the melody queen Lata Mangeshkar. Salman Khan will shake his legs on the Dabangg hits. Other celebrities enthralling the audience will be Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Pritam, Sonu Nigam, AR Rehman and Adnan Sami.

For the inaugural edition, nominations in the non-film music category include Ustad Rashid Khan, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Dr L Subramaniam, Shubha Mudgal, Lata Mangeshkar, Kailash Kher, Mohit Chauhan and Purnima Chaudhuri.


The Best Non-Film Song will see titles with 'Aman Ki Asha', 'Bas Ek Baat Ka Humko Gila', 'Chaandan Mein', 'Fitoor', 'Let's Go To Mumbai City' and 'Marhabba Jaanam' vying for the GIMA trophy.


In addition to the ten non-film and 11 film music categories, there will be an award for the Best Anti-Piracy Initiative.
