Jermaine Jackson On Concert Reports!

BERLIN — Michael Jackson's brother Jermaine insisted Thursday that major stars such as Mary J. Blige were still trying to take part in a tribute concert for the "King of Pop" in Vienna this month.

Blasting a Wave of media reports about the show unravelling, Jermaine Jackson said he had talked with Blige Wednesday and that she was still trying to resolve a scheduling conflict so she could appear in the line-up.

"I actually spoke to Mary herself and she really is working it out to try to be here," he told reporters in Berlin at a promotional event for the September 26 concert in memory of Jackson, who died suddenly in June.

Jermaine Jackson, 54, said he and his partners had also spoken to Stevie Wonder, Chris Brown, R. Kelly, Akon, Natalie Cole and actress Angela Bassett as well as Bollywood stars Adnan Sami, Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan, plus Lebanese singer Haifa Wehbe.

But he said he could not confirm a final list until a press conference next week in Vienna.

The concert has been thrown into doubt following US media reports saying that pop stars such as Blige and Brown had never confirmed they would appear.

Blige's spokesperson told Rolling Stone she had been in talks to perform but had "been booked for months" for a Gucci fashion show in Italy.

The magazine also quoted a source close to Brown -- sentenced last month for a February attack on his then-girlfriend, pop star Rihanna -- as saying the 20-year-old singer "was not close to saying yes" to performing at the concert.

Jermaine Jackson slammed such reports as misleading and "sensationalist".

"My family is still mourning for the loss of a wonderful human being," he said.

"It bothers me a great deal... to have the type of negative wave that is coming from the States," he said when asked about the reports.

"This tribute is not about name-dropping, it's about honouring someone who gave his all to the world."

Organisers have said they expect some 65,000 fans set to attend the event at Schoenbrunn Palace and millions more to watch it live on television.

"Our focus has been doing this for (Michael Jackson's) fans around the world who are going to have another chance of feeling him and touching him and be a part of his whole musical experience," Jackson said.

Organisers attempted to quash rumours about family squabbling over the tribute concert, and showed a video of his mother Katherine they said was recorded Wednesday in California in which she promised to attend.

"I know Michael would appreciate what you all are doing if he were here today," she said. "I'm sure it's going to be fantastic and I'm looking forward to seeing you there."

Planners said she would bring with the late King of Pop's three children.

Michael Jackson died on June 25 aged 50 at his home in Los Angeles.
Inquiries into the cause of his death are continuing.
