Sonu Niigaam To Sing On Purbayan Chatterjee Jazz Album ???

Kolkatans get a taste of jazz

Kolkata, Dec 23 (IBNS): Sitarist Purbayan Chatterjee organised a soft launch of his new jazz album 'Trialogue' at a city hotel on Wednesday night.

'Trialogue', a jazz fusion album, is an international collaboration of three ethnic groups and continents, featuring Purbayan himself with South African jazz guitarist Maxwell Hittler Vidima, Belgian Saxophonist Manuel Hermia and Bengali music composer Indraadip Dasgupta.

Speaking on the occasion, Purbayan Chatterjee, a disciple of sitar maestro Ustad Ali Akhbar Khan, said: "Triallogue's main motive is not fusion with different artists, but simply fusion among different continents. Each and every track of the album are fused into jazz. We are bringing in the intellectual side of music by harmonizing the continents."

"The album will be a true flavour of Afro- Indian music fused into European style, rather any kind of mixture is fusion. In short, it will be a cross-over album," Purbayan.

Speaking on the event, Indraadip said, "Trialogue, a composition of fusion jazz, is like organic music. Organic means it will never decay and will go long into the listeners hearts. Amader album srotader mone jate daag kate taar-e chesta korchi (we have tried to make a place in our listeners' hearts)."

Asked how did they decide on the fusion line, he said: "Nothing is decided, but trying to create as many tracks we can. And trying to induce some Far- East flavours into it. Sonu Nigam might sing a song or two for the album. But again, nothing has finalized yet."

South African guitarist Maxwell said he enjoyed working on the jazz album.

"I had worked with Purbayan five years back. And today when I am again working with him, it seems his versatility is grooming on and on. It is really pleasing to work with such a maestro and composer at a time. Both of them are variedly talented," he said.

The exact date of launch of 'Trialogue' is not yet certain, but the team is planning to bring it by the beginning of next year, 'with a digital release of the album in some radio stations', said Purbayan.

The night saw Purbayan and Maxwell tranquilizing the audience with their fusion at an event 'Rhythm For Life 2010', organized by Consortium Group.
