What do Vikram Seth, Nandan Nilekani, Kamal Nath, Karan Thapar, Tarun Tahiliani and Abhinav Bindra have in common? Well, apart from being highly successful in their area of work, they all are Doon School alumni or ex-Doscos as they would like to call themselves.
The school that has an illustrious list of alumni, recently celebrated its 75th anniversary. And to commemorate the occasion, the school came out with a music album – "The Spirit of Doon". While the likes of Sonu Nigam, Prasoon Joshi and Yash Raj Studios came together to collaborate with the IIT Kanpur alumni team to create an IIT-K anthem on the occasion of their golden jubilee, the Doon School Old Boy's Society (DSOBS) managed to get lyricist Gulzar, music composer Bhajan Sopori and his son Abhay Sopori as well as singer Suresh Wadekar, all together, for their school's anthem.
"DSOBS is very proud and delighted to present, "The Spirit of Doon", as a part of our 75th year celebrations. The album is a mix of musical offerings ranging from folk to classical, and traditional to modern," said Kanwar Vipin Malhotra, president, DSOBS.
He further added, "This album is an attempt to present a facet of the spirit of Doon. Doscos from different age groups and cities across India, came together to participate in the making of this album."
Talking about his experience of working on the album, music composer Abhay Sopori, said, "When we started working on the album, the idea was to distribute it only amongst the Doon School students and its alumni. But once the product started taking shape, we thought, why not make it large? That's when we brought in sponsors and decided to have a commercial launch as well. It is a beautiful work of creativity. Here's to saluting the 75 year old legacy of memories."
