Shankar Sonar is the hero of the movie who is honest and much loved goldsmith but have lack of financial resources as his ill father and the unwed sister are his responsibilities. He falls in love with his cunning astrologer neighbors daughter Suvarnalata but her father is against that love. She makes a foolproof plan to convince her father and asks Shankar to make a gold necklace of dus tola for her so that she can tell her father that he is the best suitable husband for her as he can do anything for her. Although he is a poor man but he tries his best to get his goal as this necklace can make or break his life.
