
BANGALORE: After announcing host of regional music awards, Reliance Big Entertainment through its Reliance Broadcast Network (RBNL) radio arm Big FM has announced the inception of ‘TV Biggies' award to felicitate the television industry in Telugu and the Kannada television space.
Big claims that the ‘TV Biggies’ in both the states will cover all aspects of television- celebration, felicitation and recognition of some of the biggest moments on TV across all channels.
Big FM content and communication head- South, Ramesh Bhaskar said, “Small screen is no more small, it has gotten into ones daily life, last five years has seen a sea change in TV led entertainment, be it the latest movie available on TV within a week’s time or reality shows hosted by renowned film celebrities, television today offers you a vast sphere of diversified programming. The TV growth story in south is no different; the superstars of films are hosting various TV shows realizing the potential small screen offers today. Our television awards initiative has been inspired by the fact that there is so much happening all over in small screen and it needs recognition at one common platform.”
The ‘Telugu Biggies’ will be held first, followed by the ‘Kannada Biggies’ which is scheduled to happen around the ‘Navratra-Duhserra’ time. Sources at Big say that ‘Bangla Biggies’ are likely to follow later.
The inaugural Telugu Biggies will have 22 categories – 16 popular and six jury awards. The Kannada Biggies will be based on the Navarasa (Nine aspects) theme and will have nine popular awards. The number of ‘Kannada Biggies’ jury awards have to be decided as yet.
Big is holding discussions with various Telugu and Kannada GEC’s to partner the event and plans to announce the television broadcast partner shortly. The group is also in discussions with various sponsors and advertisers. The final show for each state will comprise of a 30 minute curtain raiser and a main show of about 120-150 minutes to be aired on a weekend evening.
In the recent past, ETV has been broadcasting Big FM’s music awards in a number of states, while Star’s Kannada offering Suvarna TV had aired its ‘Big Music Utsav 2010’ during which Sonu Niigaam had been felicitated with the best male Kannada singer award.
Once the broadcast partner has been decided, the Kannada TV Biggies and the ‘Telugu TV Biggies will see a month-long extensive promotion through TV, radio, print, outdoor, on-line, SMS, microsite and activations at malls, RWA’s and other key touch points across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
